My Musical Path

Bach

Since August 2004 I have been playing and studying the classical saxophone with Mr. Gan Lev. At first I studied privately, until in August 2006 I got admitted to JAMD and began studying there, still taking private lessons with Mr. Lev.

Prior to August 2004, I had no other serious experience with music. I studied classical guitar at 10th grade and stopped after about 9 months due to not practicing enough. The same thing happened with Jazz piano (with Mr. Raz Yitzchaky) at the 12th grade, in which I also stopped due to not practicing. When I was a kid (before grade school) I used to be in a "organit" thingie which also ended pretty quick. I also had zero experience with solfege prior to JAMD, thus I had to enroll to the prep course before I started, which took place in the summer.

When I just started with Mr. Lev (my first year), I used to practice for one hour per day. Then when I decided I want to be auditioned for JAMD, I started practicing for two hours per day. Since I had been admitted, I continued with that duration.

After three years with Mr. Lev I have moved to New York City to study with one of his teachers, Mr. Allen Won, who is also my current teacher. I try to practice for more than six hours a day.

I enjoy mostly J. S. Bach and the later modern (Also impressionist) composers. I do not have a particular penchant for Romanticism. Nowadays I am mostly fascinated by neo-classical music, which manifests itself in the works of (just to name a two) B. Heiden or P. Creston - students of P. Hindemith, or Dubois.
